Dropping $10/month Unlimited DVR for existing customers
Now that Unlimited DVR is included with all DirecTV Stream packages, has DirecTV Stream dropped this charge for existing customers? My account is still being charged $10/month for Unlimited DVR. Have any existing long-time customers had any luck getting DirecTV Stream to drop this charge from their account without having to threaten to cancel service?

No, I don’t think so. Many long-subscribed customers are still on grandfathered packages dating back to AT&T TV NOW as well as DIRECTV NOW. These grandfathered packages have great pricing and many existing customers aren’t willing to give it up and re-sign up as a new customer.
It IS always worth a try. Call DIRECTV STREAM and see what they can do for you. Chances are that they will suggest signing up as a new customer though. If you aren’t locked into a grandfathered package like GO BIG from a couple years ago there isn’t much to lose.

I don't have an exceptional plan. I subscribed to the Service in December 2021, a month before DirecTV Stream offered the Unlimited DVR service for free. I kept hearing rumors that DirecTV Stream was going to drop the $10 fee for existing customers. Now that they have raised the cost of the Choice programming by $10/month, I certainly do not want to pay for something that other customers are receiving for free.
If I'm going to have to go through the hassle of canceling my subscription, then I may as well consider other streaming services (YouTubeTV, Hulu, and Sling).

Absolutely. If those other streaming services have the same channels as DIRECTV STREAM that you enjoy (especially at a cheaper rate) no one here is stopping you.

Last year, when there was confusion if existing customers would also get free unlimited dvr--I spoke with one of their live chat agents and he told me existing would also be included (not just new)--I took a screenshot of the conversation and when I never received free unlimited, I complained and they gave it to me for a year.

@Ludwick577 ,
I received the one-year credit on my account as well, after threatening to cancel, but that is going to expire soon. I had hoped they would have resolved this by now for all customers, especially with rates going up and unlimited DVR being included in all plans. But it seems that existing customers continue to get the shaft and DirecTV Stream will only provide the customer service that should be standard, if a customer threatens to leave. We shouldn't have to practice customer service extortion to be treated as valued customers.

@abartonkc I was lucky with my deal. They gave me the Ultimate package for the price of Choice and free unlimited DVR until April 2024.

Well I got a surprise today. I thought I had Unlimited DVR for life last year when I signed Up a little before February. Now I find out that they just gave me a $10.00 credit for a year and now they are charging me $10.00 a month for unlimited DVR. This kind of stuff is exactly why we went to YTTV , when we dropped Satellite. We came back to DTV Stream last year and then we start getting the same billing shennanigans. I never did like when they say one thing and do not follow thru. May try some FUBO or go back to YTTV. Talking to wife now. Liked the service just not this kind of stuff. Well so be it.

They all have issues! YTTV just dropped the MLB Network. Should see the remarks and rants over there. Everyone should be aware that services continue to change constantly.

Thanks. I am finding out that Canceling my Services and going to YTTV for a while may be my only option to get them to do the right thing. I have a lot of time until the next Football Season. Maybe I come back in the fall as a new customer and they might give me what I was supposed to get now. I will make sure I have it in writing this next go around if it happens. I am just not as smart as I was when I was Younger.
etc: I just tried calling the number you have for Directv Stream 1-888-429-4023. I could of Have gotten more done thru the Local Librarian.

Well.Sometimes it right under our noses. We have Cox as our internet provider. They have a Internet delivery cable TV package, they are offering some very nice discounted packages for 24 months. I thought the only choices were Fubo and YTTV come to find out it maybe closer than you think.
Better get your game on DirecTV.

Maybe. It never was about the newsmax problem. It was about them charging me $10.00 a month for unlimited DVR. When I signed up last January they said I would have Unlimited Dvr for life. What they did was give me a $10 credit each month for a year. It's not about the $10.00 each month I can easly afford that, it's that they LIED to me. They give Lifetime Unlimited DVR to almost all new customers and a lot current customers . I want to Parphrase what they said to Newsmax, why should I pay for something most get for FREE. It may just be me letting my old age get in the way of sound judgement, but I just can't stand it when people and Businesses don't stand up to their WORD. Just call me Old Fashion. I may end up staying with Directv or I may not,but they will continue to here from me and my typed word as long as they do these things. They may end up shutting me out from here, but I am a member on many other forums.

It may depend on the specific type of "grandfathering".
For those of us with very old grandfathered subscriptions (dating back to basically the beginning), it is both no longer available package(s) and a locked in discount, along with being locked out of certain features. They haven't said explicitly, but have on several occasions indicated that those features would be available if one switched to a current plan, which implies they wouldn't put any impediments in the way of doing so.
