Directv Optons
I have DIRECTV satellite for over 20 years and do not want to pay for it anymore since I moved to streaming. Directv stream is working on Roku. Do I need DirectTV account to have Directv stream?

They are two different services, with two different accounts. Just remember don't use the same sign on and password for Stream that you did for satellite. I did when I switched over and it was messed up, and I had to have them change the Stream one, to get everything to work correctly.

Yes, You must have a Directv Satellite or a Directv Streaming account to access Directv Stream. When you signed into your Roku did you put in the credentials for your Directv Satellite service? If you did then you are just streaming your Satellite service on your Roku. To stream you would have to create a brand new Directv Streaming Account using a different email address than you used for the Satellite service.

Thank you. I did exactly what you said. I logged into DTV with my satellite login. Do you recommend signing up for Stream and then canceling?
I am doing this because I do not want to pat 140 dollars for something that I can get the same services on Stream.
Also, why do I need a ARS and pay 15 dollars? Seems like a scam :)

If you are referring to ARS as the Regional Sports Network, they charge it spearately. It is included in some plans but not all of them. Some areas don't have any. Use the local channel and local sports lookup to find out what is in your area.

I agree with you the Advanced Reciever Fee is a ripoff. You can save money with the Streaming version of Directv just be aware that Directv Stream does not have all the same channels as the Satellite Service does. Also, make sure when signing up that you are not signing up for Directv Via Internet, You want Directv Stream(Bring You Own Device) if you sign up for Directv Via Internet then you would get stuck with ARS again which you do not want or need. I know this could be confusing we are not sure why they created 2 different streaming versions but Directv did. Also, Yes I would make sure that you created your streaming account first before canceling your Sat. service that way you can be logged into the Streaming version before they shut off your Sat. service.

ARS is not the Regional Sport Network (RSN) fee.
Advanced Receiver Services (ARS) $15 is the newer account version for things like DVR service.
Old way: Primary TV $0, HD $10, DVR, $10, Whole Home DVR $3 = $23
New way: Primary TV $7, HD included, DVR and Whole Home DVR $15 = $22
DIRECTV STREAM kept the ARS $15 instead of redesigning the fee all over again.
