Can you change your home network?

We have two homes, one in Tennessee and one in Hawaii. We go back-and-forth and spend three months each time in each location, spring and fall in Tennessee and winter and summer in Hawaii.

we have three televisions in Hawaii and seven televisions in Tennessee.

our credit card billing address is Tennessee so we gave that address when we recently signed up for DIRECTV streaming. However we are actually in Hawaii right now.

The problem is there is a six hour time difference. So our favorite shows that come on at 8 PM in Tennessee now come on at 2 PM in Hawaii. I know we can record them but that is not really the solution, it’s just confusing.

how does DIRECTV know what is your home network for the purpose of limiting your devices? Three devices is fine in Hawaii and we need the higher limit in Tennessee when we are there.

can we somehow change our time zone or our home network when we travel back-and-forth?

All your questions have been discussed many many times in these forums. Suggest you do a little research and you will find most of your answers. You didn't say which devices are you using which makes answering your concerns almost impossible. The website discussed your limitation at home and when traveling and what and how many devices can be active at one time. Visit the website and refresh your understanding of the service.

Doesn't work.  I have a local (Hawaiian) home network and a Tennessee guide/times.  Settings won't let me change it.  Can that be fixed?

What device are you using? Your home base is first determined during initial installation of the software. Local channels and regional sports are derived from a combination of a customer billing zip code and IP address. Essentially, the IP address a customer is assigned must match their billing zip code to receive the local channels available in that area. Your ISP determines the IP address that is assigned to your location.

Okay thanks for trying folks, none of the posts helped.  Here is the answer from calling DirecTV support:

problem:

channel guide is based on billing address of credit card.  all our cards are tennessee

solution:

  1. get a new credit card from our local hawaii bank with hawaii address.
  2. switch payment method at directv to this card when we are in hawaii
  3. switch back to our other card when in TN

So I applied for a new credit card.

We can call this thread a wrap.

Thanks for all the detailed information, @Sadhu.

We know how important is to enjoy our streaming service. In fact, the availability of local channels is based on the billing address. In case you're using a DIRECTV STREAM device, local channels availability are based on location and are determined by the Location Service on the device.

If the location can't be determined, then it will fail back to the Billing ZIP code. That's why we suggest having a different billing address to enjoy the local channels of the area at your second residence.

Please, don't hesitate to contact us back if you have further questions. We'll be here to help.
